AOEDUS • YOUR INFORMATION

Privacy Policy

How we handle information when you read Aoedus, contact us, share a news tip or subscribe to our newsletter.

Last updated: 8 October 2026

1. Who we are and how to contact us

Aoedus operates the news and magazine website aoedus.com. For questions about your information or to exercise your rights, email hello@aoedus.com with the subject “Privacy request”. This notice covers our website, reader enquiries, news tips, advertising enquiries and newsletter sign-ups.

2. Information we collect

  • Messages and tips: the name and email address you choose to provide, your message, supporting links and any other information you include.
  • Newsletter: your email address, subscription preferences and records needed to manage confirmation and unsubscribe requests.
  • Comments and accounts: profile information, comment content and technical information such as IP address and browser details used for security and moderation.
  • Technical data: server logs and information needed to deliver pages, protect the site and remember choices such as display preferences.

Please do not send identity documents, passwords, bank details or unnecessary sensitive information through our ordinary forms. A news tip may concern other people: include only information relevant to the story and that you are entitled to share.

3. Why we use information

We use information to answer enquiries, assess story leads, investigate corrections, manage advertising discussions, moderate comments, operate reader accounts and maintain site security. Newsletter information is used to send the updates you requested and manage your subscription. Form submissions do not automatically enrol you in marketing.

Depending on the activity, our basis for processing is your consent, steps needed to respond to a contractual enquiry or fulfil a booking, our legitimate interests in running a secure news service and handling reader communications, or a legal obligation. Where consent is the basis, you may withdraw it at any time; withdrawal does not affect earlier lawful processing.

4. News tips and editorial use

Our editorial team may review a tip, contact you for clarification and check it against other sources. Submitting a tip does not guarantee publication. We may use verified facts in reporting, subject to editorial judgement and applicable law. Tell us clearly if you wish to remain unnamed; we will consider that request before attributing your identity in a story. Ordinary website forms and email are not a secure anonymous reporting channel, and absolute confidentiality cannot be promised.

5. Service providers and sharing

The site uses WordPress, Hostinger hosting and MailPoet for newsletter forms. Hosting, email delivery, site maintenance and security providers may process information necessary to provide their services. Messages may be routed to our email inbox and, where enabled, stored by the form service. Access should be limited to people who need it for the relevant purpose.

We may disclose information when legally required, to protect rights or site security, or with your permission. We do not sell newsletter subscription lists. Links to other websites are covered by those websites’ own privacy notices.

6. Cookies and embedded content

WordPress may use cookies for login, security, saved comment details and preferences. Optional comment-detail cookies can last up to one year. Login cookies normally last two days, or two weeks with “Remember Me”; display-option cookies may last one year. Newsletter forms may remember whether a popup was shown.

Articles may include external videos, images or other embedded content. Those providers can receive technical information and may use cookies as if you visited their service. Gravatar may receive a hash of a commenter’s email address to provide a profile image; see Automattic’s privacy notice.

You can manage or delete cookies in your browser. Blocking essential cookies can affect login or other features. Where non-essential tracking requiring consent is introduced, we will seek the required consent and update this notice.

7. Retention and security

We retain information for as long as needed for the stated purpose, to resolve disputes or to meet applicable legal obligations. Relevant editorial correspondence may be retained to substantiate reporting. Comments may remain while published; account information remains while the account is active. Newsletter records remain while subscribed, with limited suppression records where needed to honour an unsubscribe. Backups and security logs may take longer to expire.

We use reasonable access controls and technical protections, but no website or email system can guarantee complete security. Contact us promptly if you believe information has been exposed or misused.

8. International processing

Some providers may process information outside Nigeria. Where such transfers occur, applicable legal safeguards are required. You can contact us for information about providers or safeguards relevant to your enquiry.

9. Your choices and rights

Subject to the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and applicable exceptions, you can request access to your personal information, correction, deletion, restriction or portability, and object to relevant processing. You may withdraw consent and challenge decisions made solely by automated processing where the law applies. We may need proportionate identity checks before acting on a request.

Use an unsubscribe link in a newsletter or email us to stop updates. You may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission if you believe your privacy rights have been infringed.

10. Children

Our forms and newsletter are intended for adults. We do not knowingly seek personal information from children without an appropriate lawful basis and any required parental or guardian consent. Contact us if a child has submitted information so we can assess and address it.

11. Changes to this policy

We will revise this notice when relevant practices change and update the date above. Material changes may also be communicated through the website or another appropriate channel.
