The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says it intercepted cannabis and codeine-based syrup with a combined estimated street value above ₦5 billion at ports in Lagos and Rivers states.

The Tide reported the agency’s account of operations at Apapa, Tin Can Island and Onne. NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said the shipments had been tracked through intelligence gathering before searches.

The reported recoveries included 124 kilograms of cannabis at Apapa, 1,297.5 kilograms at Tin Can Island and a further cannabis consignment alongside 109,600 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup at Onne.

The quantities and valuations are NDLEA’s figures, as carried in the source report. An interception or arrest does not establish an individual’s guilt; any allegations against suspects remain subject to investigation and the judicial process. The operations place renewed attention on screening of imported cargo and drug-control enforcement at Nigeria’s ports.
