Nigerian sports officials and Commonwealth Sport representatives have held discussions in Abuja about a possible bid to host the 2034 Commonwealth Games.
Voice of Nigeria reported that National Sports Commission chairman Shehu Dikko and director-general Bukola Olopade met the visiting delegation alongside Nigeria Olympic Committee president Habu Gumel.
The talks included a review of Nigeria’s earlier 2030 hosting proposal. The reported assessment identified government support, an intended legacy and infrastructure in Abuja and Lagos as strengths, while venue alignment, scheduling, budget and the sports programme require more consideration.
The discussions do not mean Nigeria has been awarded the Games. They concern development of a potential bid within Commonwealth Sport’s process. A hosting decision, financing commitment or final venue plan would need separate confirmation.
