Actor Tayo Faniran has called for films and performers to receive a fair hearing based on merit. In an interview reported by Punch, he discussed his experience of seeking recognition and building opportunities in Nollywood.
Faniran cited Gangs of Lagos and The Fire and the Moth while explaining why he felt some work deserved greater recognition. He said he wanted to create his own platforms and help another generation of performers. His criticisms about gatekeeping and favouritism are personal assessments, not established findings against named people. The report says he described a wider industry problem rather than directing his remarks at a particular individual.
