The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry says economic reform should be judged by whether it lowers operating costs for businesses and improves households’ purchasing power.

Economic Confidential reported that LCCI president Leye Kupoluyi made the call in response to President Bola Tinubu’s Independence Day address.

The chamber listed expensive energy and credit, infrastructure gaps, multiple taxes, insecurity and logistics constraints among the burdens on manufacturers, farmers, transporters and smaller businesses.

It called for stronger industrial power supply, gas access, long-term finance and transport links, alongside predictable regulation. The chamber also advocated a shift from raw-commodity exports towards processed and manufactured products. These are policy recommendations from a business group, rather than newly adopted government measures. Their relevance will depend on implementation and measurable changes in production and distribution costs.
